Gourd Types of Crops Farming


What is a gourd?

The Gourd is a “Cucurbitaceae” family fruit and also known as Bottle Gourd, Lauki, Long Melon, Calabash, White-Flowered Gourd, etc.

The Gourd mainly crops in summer and rainy seasons. It is usually Farm from March to September.These types of crops also known as “Ageti Fasal”. The Month of July and January are best for sowing it.

The Sandy Loamy is very good soil for farming the gourd.

It has different varieties of seeds like Sankar, Pusa, Summer Prolific long, Summer Prolific Round, Pusa Manjari, Pusa Megdoot , Arka Bahar, Punjab Komal, Punjab Barkat, etc.

How to crop this?

The gourd farming is very productive in the “Do Math” soil is a very good quality of soil for cropping and it is good for other types of cropping also. But the gourd can be farm in any types of cultivating soil. For the summer production, the sowing should be done in between the months of January and February, and for the rainy season, June and July are the best months for sowing.

How to sowing?

Plow the field to a fine tilth and dig pits of the 20-25 cm x 20-25 cm x 20-25 cm size at 2 x 2.5 m row spacing and use plant spacing of 45-60cm.

Seed Sowing Depth: 1.5-2.5cm deep seeds are sown.

Use D.A.PUreaPotash, or Natural Bio Organic Fertilizer as fertilizers.

sowing 2-3 seeds in a dig and maintain the distance between the digs in a row. Seed rate of 2 kg is sufficient for one acre land.

Irrigation process: Irrigate the field before dibbling the seeds and thereafter once a week .

Protection from pesticides: For the plant protection spray properly.

Use Of Water:

  • In the starting of seed sowing drop or spray some amount of water for increasing the density of the soil.
  • When the seed start sprouting then use pesticides killer or Neem Leaves can also be use as the pesticides killer.
  • According to weather conditions after 20-24 days use water to irrigate the gourds.
  • And this process will take 4-5 months maximum and after that the gourds are ready to harvest.

Harvest: Gourd Fruits are harvested at tender stage and before 100 % maturity.
